WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Kevin Chappell of UCLA Has been named Pacific-10
Conference Golfer of the Month for January/February 2008.
Chappell, a senior from Fresno, Calif., posted a three-round total of 15-under-par 198
to win the PING Arizona Intercollegiate by seven shots. His 54-hole score of 198 (67-
67-64) eclipsed the 23-year old school record of 199 by Duffy Waldorf in 1985....

Golfers Finish Second at John Hayt Collegiate
Sophomore Kang ties for second after a sizzling final round.
At one point during the last round, the Bruins trailed fourth-ranked Alabama by one stroke down the stretch. But the Bruins played the final three holes in one over par, while the Crimson Tide played the same stretch in two-under par. As a result, the Bruins finished four shots behind at 877 (+13), despite a final round score of 289 (+1). Alabama posted a two-over par score of 290 for a 54-hole total of 873 (+9). North Florida tied for third at 886 (+22) with Tennessee. Charlotte and Florida tied for fifth at 889 (+25).

Kevin Chappell Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
Bruin senior honored for first time in his career.
Senior Kevin Chappell (Fresno, CA/Buchanan HS) of the UCLA men's golf team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (January 28-February 3).
Chappell posted a three-round total of 198 (-15) to win the PING Arizona Intercollegiate by seven shots. His 54-hole score (67-67-64) eclipsed the 23 year-old school record of 199 held by Duffy Waldorf, the 1985 Player of the Year. In addition, Chappell's final round 64 (-7) tied for the second best single round score in school history.

Peter Campbell Qualifies for Buick Invitational
Former UCLA letterman Peter Campbell will play in the Buick Invitational this week at Torrey Pines.
Campbell fired a six-under par 66 Monday at El Camino Country Club in Oceanside to earn a spot in this week's Buick Invitational, beginning Thursday at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. He tied for second place with three other players.

UCLA wins CordeValle to stay unbeaten
GOLFWEEK STAFF
UCLA won its second consecutive stroke-play tournament to start the season – and third overall – with an 11-shot victory Wednesday in the CordeValle Collegiate.
The Bruins shot a 7-under 353 in the final round to finish at 12-under 1,068, 11 shots ahead of defending national champion Stanford. USC finished third at 7 over par. Each team counted the best five scores of its six players, instead of the usual five-count-four format.
UCLA’s James Lee (74), Augusta State’s Henrik Norlander (71) and Stanford freshman Sihwan Kim (69), the 2004 U.S. Junior champion, tied for the individual title at 5-under 211.
UCLA’s Kevin Chappell (69), Stanford’s Jordan Cox (68) and Lamar’s Hugues Joannes (68) finished tied for fourth, one shot back.

Men’s golf on top after first day of play

This week the UCLA men’s golf team faces a different sort of test at the CordeValle Collegiate, a stroke-play event where the Bruins will face the two other top teams in the Pac-10, USC and Stanford, and use a six-man team instead of the five-man team it has used in its first events.

Bruin golf lives up to its hype in tournament win

Men’s golf dominates at Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge
The UCLA men’s golf team heard a lot of questions last week about just how good it was before its first tournament, the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash.
The final leaderboard provided plenty of answers.
On Monday UCLA won the seven-team event by six strokes with a final score of 879 (10-over par), and three Bruins finished in the top four as individuals.
